U.S. stocks higher at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average up 0.40%
Investing.com – U.S. stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Telecoms, Financials and Basic Materials sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.40%, while the S&P 500 index added 0.75%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 0.69%.
The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Boeing Co (NYSE:BA), which rose 4.22% or 8.24 points to trade at 203.63 at the close. Meanwhile, Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM) added 3.58% or 4.82 points to end at 139.60 and Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) was up 3.55% or 0.95 points to 27.68 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT), which fell 4.37% or 10.48 points to trade at 229.10 at the close. UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:UNH) declined 2.72% or 14.11 points to end at 504.53 and Honeywell International Inc (NASDAQ:HON) was down 1.99% or 4.26 points to 210.04.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Bath&Body Works Inc. (NYSE:BBWI) which rose 10.53% to 47.74, Carnival Corporation (NYSE:CCL) which was up 9.66% to settle at 8.74 and Warner Bros Discovery Inc (NASDAQ:WBD) which gained 8.81% to close at 10.38.
The worst performers were Arista Networks (NYSE:ANET) which was down 5.85% to 113.84 in late trade, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) which lost 4.37% to settle at 229.10 and Archer-Daniels-Midland Company (NYSE:ADM) which was down 3.65% to 86.38 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Vivos Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:VVOS) which rose 154.05% to 1.88, Cryptyde Inc (NASDAQ:TYDE) which was up 81.35% to settle at 0.35 and Vyne Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:VYNE) which gained 70.05% to close at 0.24.
The worst performers were Vera Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:VERA) which was down 64.70% to 6.46 in late trade, ReShape Lifesciences Inc (NASDAQ:RSLS) which lost 43.17% to settle at 8.90 and Enovix Corp (NASDAQ:ENVX) which was down 41.01% to 7.15 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 2465 to 625 and 76 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2692 rose and 1091 declined, while 127 ended unchanged.
Shares in Vera Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:VERA) fell to all time lows; falling 64.70% or 11.84 to 6.46. Shares in Enovix Corp (NASDAQ:ENVX) fell to all time lows; falling 41.01% or 4.97 to 7.15.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 3.89% to 22.01.
Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.81% or 14.95 to $1,861.05 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 4.90% or 3.77 to hit $73.16 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 4.99% or 4.10 to trade at $78.00 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.58% to 1.06, while USD/JPY rose 1.29% to 132.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.29% at 104.01.
